We decided the create a blog for OceanLords, so as to open ourselves to the admirals out there and also to keep a log about everything that is done and updated.
Also feel free to comment about everything the game offers (or does not offer).
Anything you want maybe to be included in the game?
To give a quick glance about how OceanLords began...read below.
I don't know if any of you ever read or watched a Warhammer ManOWar game (a table top game). It's basically a sea battle game that involved 2 fleets consisting of different types of ships and then battle out the game using dices and inches for the movement of the ships. The game was not like the usual battleship game but a tactical one. It was a really detailed sea battle game. And one of us asked, why not we try to replicate it online? We couldn't find a game like ManOWar and so came up with the idea of OceanLords (at first the name was OceanWars).
We decided to use our own historical background for the game and invent our own type of races and ships. This made it more unique.
I have to confess that the idea was good but sucked a bit since static HTML was not suited for a game like this. Ships were limited to 4 facing and the idea of posting back to the server came out to be a flop.
We then decided to switch the battle system for a flash version of it where a ship can turn and be manouvred more easily as it should be (and without postbacks). Seeing that the flash battle system was welcomed by our players, we shifted the world map campaign feature for the flash version as well. It is much more fun that the static table world map that was first introduced.
This is pretty much a breif summary of OceanLords development history.
We are continously adding features and things. In the last we removed features and stuff that didn't make sense or made the game less playable.
The lastest two major updates were that we removed the old ship template details were a ship was divided into lots of different parts. Now a ship has a basic movement, hit points, armour and ramming damage along with every type of armaments it has. A ship can be upgraded as normal but no need to upgrade a particular part of the ship. Just upgrade the whole ship.
We also included a new race (Stormrider clan). With every race release we are adding a historical background to the world of Tarraocea. Right now there are two chapters 1 - Age of Humans and 1 - Lodan arrogance. Just read "http://www.oceanlords.com/history.aspx" to read about the historical background of the game.
we have more races in the pipelines and more features to be added. However if you have any ideas, races or features you wish to be included just mail to us or post below.
